Welcome to Research Outreach! In this issue, we are excited to celebrate some of the pioneers driving the latest discoveries and innovations in research.

We’re pleased to feature the work of Dr Peter F. Kador, Dr Sam Zigler and Dr Manuel Datiles who have devoted decades of work into understanding and developing potential treatments for cataracts. We would like to acknowledge the outstanding career of Dr Datiles and this article is dedicated to his memory.

In these challenging and uncertain times it’s more important than ever to stay up to date with the latest research. But how can we stay informed in this age of rapid digital communication, when scientific voices can become lost in the noise? In December 2020, Project ECHO held a Global Series webinar to discuss the importance of clear communication of science in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Research Outreach spoke to four of the expert contributors to find out more.

Taking a diverse approach to conservation, The Orangutan Project aims to collectivise and protect remaining orangutan habitats. Founder and President Leif Cocks tells us about the Project’s multifaceted approach to conservation, and about his own ethics which underpin the conservation work.

So take a look inside! We hope you enjoy this issue of Research Outreach as much as we’ve enjoyed putting it together.
