Issue 131

Welcome to Research Outreach! In our August issue, we are excited to celebrate some of the pioneers driving the latest discoveries and innovations in research.

We spoke to Dr Hilary Leevers, Chief Executive of EngineeringUK. The charity’s ambition is to inspire the next generation into engineering and technology careers – areas that had significant workforce shortages in the recent past. Have a look inside our publication to find out more about the annual Big Bang Fair and competition entries from students all over the UK. Dr Leevers is optimistic for the future: young people are passionate, and they are wanted.

For nearly 90 years, Cara (or the Council for At-Risk Academics) has offered a lifeline to researchers and academics working in, or forced to flee from, dangerous global contexts. Research Outreach was privileged to speak to Executive Director Stephen Wordsworth about the practical and financial help Cara provides. Their new ‘Researchers at Risk’ scheme supports Ukrainian academics, but the council is open to academics in immediate danger all over the globe.

We hope you enjoy this issue of Research Outreach – we’ve certainly enjoyed putting it together.
