Professor MacLean studies the use of deception by law enforcement officers in situations such as obtaining consent to search, lying to induce a confession and other interactions with the public in order to achieve their aims or induce subjects to waive their constitutional rights, and how this undermines the social contract embedded in US constitutional law.
